Angular contact ball bearings are a type of ball bearing that is designed to handle both radial and axial loads. These bearings have a contact angle that is designed to allow them to support high axial loads in one direction. In this blog, we shall discuss some basic aspects of angular contact ball bearings.
Types of Angular contact ball bearing
There are several types of angular contact ball bearings, including single-row, double-row, and four-point contact.
1)Single-row angular contact ball bearing
There are separate and non separate .For separate the basic models will be S70000series, SN 70000series, it means inner ring is separate. The inner ring and outer ring can install separate, they are used for the limiting space for installation.
Four point angular contact ball bearings are also separated bearing. While QJ 0000 series bearing with double half rings,QJF 0000 series have double outer rings. Contact angle are both 35 degree.
Non-separated angular contact ball bearing means inner ring and outer ring can’t separate when install. There are some basic structure:
a. Contact angle α=15° the models will be 70000 Cseries
b. Contact angle α=25° the models will be 70000 ACseries
c. Contact angle α=40° the models will be 70000 B series
Single row angular contact ball bearing only can bear load capacity in axial in one direction(Except four point angular contact ball bearing) While bearing load capacity in radical, it will cause axial additional force, so we have to apply reverse axial road. So for this type bearing, they normally need to be used in pair.
2)Double-rows angular contact ball bearings
This type bearing can bear much larger main radical capacity and also some axial capacity and force. They can limit shaft or housing axial displacement in both ways. Contact angle α=30° The models are 3200 series, 3300 series.
3)Mount angular contact ball bearing in pairs.
They are consist by two sets of same specification single row angular contact ball bearing. With different face of outer ring combination, there are 70000/DT series, 70000/DB series, 70000/DF series This type bearing can bear main radical capacity together with axial capacity. And it also can bearing pure radical capacity. 7000/DT series only can bear axial capacity in one direction while the other two series can bear axial capacity in any direction. This type of bearing normally produced by factory and mount in advance, after mounting, there is pre pressure interference, rings and balls are in a preload status in axial direction. So it improves the rigidity and running accuracy as a unit support.
Cage material of angular contact ball bearing
For Contact angle α=15° and Contact angle α=25°single row angular contact ball bearing, the cage is normal use phenolic laminated cage. For Contact angle α=40° single row angular contact ball bearing, normal use steel cage or nylon cage with sufix TN1
While the outer ring diameter larger than 250mm, we normal use brass cage or aluminium alloy cage
Four point angular contact ball bearing use brass cage or aluminium cage.
Nylon cage are workable for most applications, but the working temperature will not higher than 120℃
How Do Angular Contact Ball Bearings Work?
Angular contact ball bearings work by using balls to reduce friction between the bearing’s raceways. The balls are contained in a cage, which is designed to keep them evenly spaced and prevent them from contacting each other. As the bearing rotates, the balls roll along the raceways, reducing friction and allowing the bearing to rotate smoothly.
Angular contact ball bearings have a contact angle that is designed to allow them to support both radial and axial loads. The contact angle is the angle between the line that connects the balls and the raceways in the radial plane and the line that connects the balls and the raceways in the axial plane. The contact angle can range from 15 degrees to 40 degrees, depending on the application. The greater the contact angle, the higher the axial load the bearing can support.
Applications of Angular Contact Ball Bearings
Angular contact ball bearings are commonly used in a variety of applications, including machine tools, high speed motor, grinding machinery , engraving machine, ball screw unit, servo motor, turbocharger, centrifugal fan, photovoltaic solar, robotics, home appliance, pumps, and compressors. They are also used in automotive applications, such as wheel bearings and gearbox bearings.
