Adapter sleeves are the most commonly used component for locating bearings with tapered bores on cylindrical shafts. They can be used on both smooth and stepped shafts.

Adapter sleeves consist of a bushing, lock nut, and lock washer (or locking clip). Adapter sleeves with lock nut and lock washer are interchangeable only as a complete set; parts from different sources are not interchangeable. Adapter sleeves are easy to install and do not require additional fixings to the shaft.
