What is a Tapered Roller Bearing?
Tapered roller bearings are mainly suited for adapting mainly radial load and also axial load while steeply tapered roller bearings can bear mainly axial load and also radial load. This type of bearing is a separate bearing, the inner ring(consisting of tapered rollers and cage) and outer ring can be installed separately. During installation and use, we can adjust bearing radial and axial clearance. It also can be installed with pre-interference.
Types of Tapered Roller Bearings
Main structures
1.Single row tapered roller bearing 30000 series.
This type of bearing can limit the shaft or housing’s axial displacement and can bear the axial load from one direction. When there is radial load, there will be additional axial force. Therefore, in general, in the two supports of the shaft, the bearing outer ring and the inner ring of the same name are relatively installed, if used alone, the external axial force must be greater than the additional force. 313 series tapered roller bearing with a large contact angle (27°-30°) which can bear large axial load. Other series bearings with contact angle 10°-18°
2. Double rows tapered roller bearings 350000 series
This bearing has a pair of raceway outer rings and two inner rings. There is a space between two inner rings. Changing the space thickness can adjust bearing clearance. This bearing can bear radial load at the same time can bear axial load from two directions. Within the axial clearance, this bearing can limit shaft and housing axial displacement in two ways.
3. Four rows tapered roller bearings 380000 series
This bearing adopts two double raceway inner rings, one double raceway outer ring, and two single raceway outer rings. There is space for adjusting the clearance between the inner rings and outer rings. The performance is similar to double-row tapered roller bearings that can bear large radial loads but with very low limiting speed. They are mainly used in heavy machinery like rolling mills.

The size of the axial clearance of the tapered roller bearing has a great influence on whether the bearing can work well. When the axial clearance is too small, the temperature rises, and when the axial clearance is too large, the bearing is easy to damage. Therefore, special attention should be paid to the adjustment axial clearance during installation and operation

Tolerance and Clearance
Tapered roller bearings normally have 0 level tolerance, but according to the requirements, there can be higher levels.
