Pillow block bearing is a bearing unit that combines a spherical ball bearing and a bearing housing with various shapes. Bearing seat is generally cast molding. Common seats are vertical seat (P), square seat (F), convex square seat (FS), convex circular seat (FC), diamond seat (FL), ring seat (C), slide block seat, etc. (T).

Pillow block bearing can be directly installed on the main body of the mechanical device through a few bolts.

This type of bearing has a certain degree of alignment in design, is easy to install, has a dual-structure sealing device, and can work in harsh environments. The bearing seat is generally cast.

What is the difference between a Pillow Block and a Plummer Block?

While the terms are sometimes used interchangeably, they are different. A Pillow Block typically refers to a one-piece housing containing a pre-lubricated insert ball bearing, designed for lighter loads and easy mounting (e.g., UCP series). A Plummer Block (or split housing) is a heavy-duty, two-piece housing designed to accommodate separate spherical roller bearings for high-load, heavy industrial applications (e.g., SNL series).

Are pillow block bearings self-aligning?

Yes. The insert bearing inside the housing has a spherically shaped outer diameter, and the inside of the housing is correspondingly concave. This design allows the insert bearing to swivel slightly within the housing, compensating for initial shaft misalignment during installation.

Do pillow block bearings need to be lubricated?

Most standard pillow block bearings come pre-lubricated from the factory and are sealed for life, making them maintenance-free for many general applications. However, they are equipped with a grease zerk (fitting) on the housing, allowing for re-lubrication in demanding environments involving high speeds, heavy moisture, or severe dust.
